Better gas mileage in 7 easy steps

Thursday, November 12th, 2009

As gas is getting more costly every day, those of you with a long commute or a heap of driving miles may feel the weight of ever growing gas expenses.

As luck would have it it’s easy to lower your gas bill and beneath i list seven strategies that are easy to employ and doesn’t require you to invest cash in a new car or snake oil add-on kits.

1. Maintain proper tire pressure

Driving with beneath inflated tires is not only dangerous as the tires could overheat, it similarly uses more gas than driving with properly inflated tires.

Inflate your tires leastways to the greatest or most complete or best possible permitted by the car’s instruction manual, and check the pressure leastways once a month using a dependable pressure gauge.

A heap of hypermilers inflate their tires more than that, to the greatest or most complete or best possible pressure printed on the sidewalls of the tires themselves. This may be as much as 60 percent more than the vehicle producers recommendation and results in further and added fuel savings because of the lower rolling resistance of a hard tire.
The downside is a harder and less comfortable ride. And i can’t even recommend you to do this, even if it’s safe, as there’s a possibility of uneven tire wear in a heap of conditions.

2. Remove ski boxes, trailers and roof racks

If you thought it’s overmuch of a hassle to get rid of the roof rack or ski box when it’s not needed or to unhook the trailer, think again!

Anything that you stick to the outside of the car will spoil the aerodynamics of the car and with that your fuel economy. At all times remove roof racks, bicycle holders, ski boxes and trailers when not needed and use a truck bed cover to heighten the aerodynamics of your pick-up truck.

3. Turn off the a/c

Even if a heap of argue that the air conditioning unit doesn’t affect fuel economy, it genuinely consumes lots of energy. That energy is taken directly from your tank and from your fuel economy. Turn it off when you can and if that is too unacceptable set it to a higher temperature as that will make it use less gas.

Tips: park the car in the shadow, have the doors open for a minute before leaving, drive at night if going for a longer trip in hot weather.

How to Make Biodiesel

Saturday, May 23rd, 2009

Home Biodiesel processors are very easy to assemble.

Assembling the drum

  1. Cut half of the top of the steel drum. Better if you can find a drum which does not have the top anymore.
  2. Prepare a hole for pipe attachment at the bottom of the drum. Do this by drilling a one and a half inch hole
  3. Weld the pipe into the hole that you just drilled
  4. Attach a brass ball valve which will serve as the drain control. Brass ball are more durable and are recommended for home made biodiesel processors.
  5. Fit the heater element onto a hole that you’ll drill on the side of the drum. Heater elements can be purchased from your local hardware or be recycled from your old water heater
  6. Wire the heater element properly

Chemical Mixer

  1. Fasten one pulley to the mixer
  2. Assemble the other pulley to the spindle of the motor
  3. Weld the propellers to the end of the steel rod
  4. Attach the mixer to the hinge so you can move it whenever required
  5. Weld the mixer assembly on the top of the drum using angled iron as support
  6. Attach one side of the hinge to the angle iron to set the mixer in the middle of the drum
  7. Tightly fit the belt to the pulleys by placing a block of wood into the hinge. The mixing capability is essential to Biodiesel processor to obtain good quality fuel.
  8. Attach a measuring stick made of wood to know the quantity of the Biodiesel being produced
